Genesis Strategy & Operations School

2024 – Identifying a promising niche for an app launch.

Context

In October 2024, I applied to the Strategy & Operations School organized by a Ukrainian IT company, Genesis. One of the steps in the selection process was a case assignment with a one-week deadline. The task was to identify the most suitable niche for an app launch within the Fitness and Wellness market.

Process

With the help of data from Statista and SensorApp, I researched the personal fitness and wellness app market and analyzed its size, growth rate, and trends. Meditation and mindfulness appeared to be the niche with the most potential.

Then I went on to one of the most fascinating parts––deciding how to differentiate an app from the competition. A helicopter view of the whole market helped me think of the mindfulness walking niche, which I flashed out by paying close attention to how different companies approached this aspect of mindfulness.

I analyzed the direct and indirect competition to identify the gaps and opportunities. These insights helped me crystallize the idea for the potential app.

Result

The concept I came up with was: “Notice App. Walking That Brings Clarity of Mind.” I wrote two user stories, a value proposition, and a goal statement for the app. Additionally, I identified potential risks and challenges associated with launching the app and offered mitigation strategies. Finally, I made revenue forecasts and ROI projections to demonstrate the app’s financial viability.

The case assignment was enjoyable, and my approach helped me advance to the final stage of the selection process, placing me among the top 5% of all applicants.
